INSURANCE

Held Retreats is not responsible for any loss, theft, or damage of personal belongings. We highly recommend purchasing comprehensive travel insurance that covers cancellation, medical expenses, and lost baggage.

MONEY

Everything on the retreat schedule is covered, however you may want some euros for souvenirs or extra activities you may do during your free time. That said, almost everywhere will accept card payments including taxis so you can likely get away without taking out local currency. There are ATMs at the airport and in some of the bigger towns. Please note that ATMs in Spain often apply a withdrawal charge.

ABOUT OUR RETREAT HOME

Our home for the week is Finca Higo, a traditional Mallorcan finca tucked into a quiet corner of Cala Tuent on the wild north-west coast, within the Serra de Tramuntana. The mountains rise behind it, the sea sits just beyond, and a private path leads down to the beach in about five minutes.

The building dates back to the 1700s, when it was first built as a watchtower guarding the coastline. It sits on around 100 acres of olive and lemon trees, gardens and open sky, far from the crowds and the noise.

Inside, there's room to gather and room to be alone. Wide living spaces, shaded terraces, a private pool, and trails leading straight from the doorstep. Our practice takes place on outdoor decks, sometimes by the water, sometimes under the trees. Between sessions there are plenty of corners for reading, journaling, or simply sitting still and taking it in.

This is a place that asks very little of you, other than to slow down and settle in.

Address: Escorca Islas Baleares ES, Vía D'es Forat, s/n, 07315 Cala Tuent

LOCATION AND TIME ZONE

Mallorca runs on Central European Summer Time (CEST) until the clocks change in late October. That puts us six hours ahead of New York (ET) for the retreat, so it's worth easing your body clock over and planning any calls home around the difference.

CLIMATE

Late September and early October in Mallorca are usually warm and settled, often still very much beach weather. Expect:

  • Daytime highs of around 75–81°F / 24–27 °C

  • Nighttime lows of around 61–66°F / 16–19 °C

  • Plenty of sun, with the odd cooler evening or passing shower

The sea is still warm from summer and lovely for swimming. Up in the mountains, mornings and evenings can feel a touch cooler, so pack a few light layers for practising outdoors at sunrise and for evenings on the terrace.

SAFETY

As it would be traveling to any foreign country, you must remember to be safe and  respectful of others customs and situations. If this is your first experience traveling  abroad, please be aware in public places, and keep a close watch on your belongings.

FOOD & WATER

All meals are included, and made fresh each day by our private chef. All dietary restrictions that have been shared with us in advance will be accommodated. Clean drinking water will be available on property. Please remember to bring a reusable water bottle for hikes and any trips offsite!

INTERNET / TELEPHONE SERVICE

There will be wifi available at the villa, but we would also like to encourage you to disconnect as much as possible. Remember to get any international plans you may need if you would like to have calling/text/data during your trip.

*Please note that some excursions may take place in areas with limited reception.

PASSPORT & ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

  • EU, EEA & Swiss citizens: No visa required. A valid passport or national ID card is sufficient. ETIAS (below) does not apply to you.

  • UK citizens: No visa required for stays up to 90 days in any 180-day period. Your passport must have been issued less than 10 years before your date of entry and be valid for at least 3 months after you leave Spain. The 10-year point catches people out, so check the issue date on your passport now.

  • US, Canada, Australia & other visa-exempt citizens: No visa required for stays under 90 days for tourism. Your passport should be valid for at least 6 months from your date of arrival.

  • If your country isn't listed above: Some nationalities need a Schengen visa arranged in advance. If you're not sure whether yours does, check with your nearest Spanish consulate well before booking flights.

  • ETIAS (applies to UK, US, Canada, Australia and all other visa-exempt travellers): The EU is introducing a new travel authorisation called ETIAS, expected to launch in late 2026, which may overlap with our retreat dates. It is not a visa. If it is live when you travel, you will need to complete a short online application before your flight. It takes a few minutes, costs a small fee, is linked to your passport, and stays valid for three years.

What to do: about three to four weeks before you travel, check the official EU site at travel-europe.europa.eu/etias to see whether ETIAS is required for your dates. If it is, apply there and only there. Do not use third-party sites, as they charge extra and are not official. If it is not yet in effect, your valid passport is all you need.

We also recommend making a digital copy or photo of your passport and storing it in your email or cloud in case of loss.

FLIGHTS & GROUND TRANSPORTATION

We recommend booking your flights to Palma de Mallorca Airport (PMI). If you are planning to arrive on the same day the retreat begins, plan to land morning or early afternoon on Tuesday.

Check-in at the villa is at 4pm.

There will be taxis available at the airport as well as Uber, and the villa is located in Cala Tuent.

Taxis from Palma Airport to the retreat villa take approximately 1 hour 15 to 1 hour 30 and cost around €120–€160.

We'll host a group call prior to the retreat, as well as add you all to a WhatsApp group so you can connect prior to the trip. Those who would like to coordinate shared taxis together may do so. If there’s a group who would like to travel together from the airport, we can also help coordinate.

If you wish to come earlier or extend your stay after the retreat, we recommend looking into accommodations in the towns of Sóller or Deià.
