The Best Time of Year to Visit Mallorca for a Wellness Trip

Mallorca is without a doubt one of the most popular destinations in Europe (and it’s not hard to see why). Forbes Travel Guide named it a top travel destination for 2026, and in 2025 the island welcomed 13.5 million visitors. It's beautiful, it's accessible, and there's a reason it keeps drawing people back.

But if you want to actually enjoy it to the fullest, timing matters.

Summer is stunning. It's also chaos.

July and August are peak season. The beaches are packed, the restaurants are fully booked, the roads are busy, and the temperatures regularly push past 35°C. If you love the buzz and don't mind the crowds, it's a great time to visit. But if you're going to Mallorca for rest, for space, for something that feels more like a reset than a holiday, summer isn't ideal.

August is also the hottest month on the island. By mid-afternoon, the heat can feel relentless. It's not exactly the weather for long hikes, outdoor yoga, or exploring local towns on foot.

September and October are Mallorca's best kept secret

This is the window most people don't think about, and it's arguably the best time to be on the island.

The air temperature in September sits around 23-27°C (73-81°F). Warm enough to live in a t-shirt, cool enough to actually enjoy being outside all day. October is a little milder, usually between 18-24°C (64-75°F), but still genuinely warm. If you're coming from the UK or northern Europe, where autumn has already arrived and the heating is back on, it feels like an extension of summer you didn't expect to get.

And the sea is the real surprise. The Mediterranean holds onto its heat long after the summer crowds leave. In September, the water is around 24-26°C (75-79°F). In October, it's still 21-23°C (70-73°F), perfectly swimmable. On October mornings, the sea is often warmer than the air, which is a strange and lovely thing to experience.

You actually get to see the island

This is the biggest practical difference. In peak summer, the popular coves, hiking trails, and coastal towns are heaving. You're queuing for a spot on the beach, fighting for a table at lunch, and sharing every viewpoint with fifty other people.

In September and October, the same places are calm. You can walk into a restaurant on the harbour and get a table. You can hike the Serra de Tramuntana without feeling like you're in a queue. You can find a beach that's close to empty on a Tuesday morning. The island opens up in a way it simply can't in July and August.

Our Mallorca retreats are deliberately scheduled for late September and October for exactly this reason. We've chosen a location in a quieter, more remote part of the island, away from the tourist hotspots. You get the beauty of Mallorca without the noise.

It's better value

Flights and accommodation drop noticeably once August ends. You're getting the same destination, better weather for actually doing things, fewer crowds, and you're paying less for it. That's a rare combination.

It's also better for the island

Mallorca's relationship with tourism is complicated. The Balearic government is actively encouraging visitors to come during the shoulder season rather than piling in during July and August. Overtourism in peak summer puts pressure on the island's infrastructure, its beaches, and its residents. Visiting in September or October means you're contributing to the local economy without adding to the strain of peak season.

Extending your summer

For a lot of people, September is when the year starts to feel like it's winding down. The days get shorter, the weather turns, and you settle into the rhythm of autumn. There's nothing wrong with that, but there's also something really powerful about giving yourself a few more days of warmth and sunshine before winter arrives.

A wellness trip to Mallorca in late September or October is a way of pressing pause before the year speeds up again. You come back rested, sun-warmed, and grounded, right when you need it most.

We have two retreats coming up in Mallorca this autumn. Sol & Sculpt in late September and Feel Your Power in October. Both are set in a peaceful, tucked-away part of the island with small groups of no more than 11 guests. Have a look at the details or message us at hello@heldretreats.com if you'd like to know more.
